FENG SHUI

Feng Shui is literally translated into “wind & water”. It is the term used to describe the art & science of the natural flow of energy, as it applies to your environment. For the individual person, this means their home or it can also be applied to the workplace. Our homes can serve as a metaphor for our lives because, in the floor plan, there are areas that represent the different aspects of life, like wealth & prosperity, relationships, reputation, career, and health. Once you are aware of the pattern in your life and in the places you have chosen to live, you can change it, if you wish. Moving provides each and every one of us the opportunity to change, grow & become more the person we truly wish to be. To live the life we wish to live. When we have some Feng Shui tools to help us, this becomes easier and more profound. The first thing we do when a move is imminent is find a new home. When looking for that new home, keep in mind that this home should in some way be better than the last one. More able to support the things in life you are working towards. Before you move into it, you should establish your energy there in a positive way. This can be done by performing some kind of ritual, something that has meaning to you like burning sage or incense or just setting your intentions of what would you like to have in your life. This process will clear the deck for your new dwelling to receive you & establish you as the new resident.

One of the most important Feng Shui “cures” you can do for yourself is to get rid of anything and everything that you don’t use or don’t love. Even if your great aunt gave it to you years ago because she loved it! This is easier for some people than others & for some things than others. You may find yourself getting very emotional. It is a good idea to have a friend help with this part. He or she will not be attached to your stuff. Donating unwanted items can be a good one. The things you decide to keep should be packed carefully and labeled clearly. Before leaving the previous home find a time to review the experiences you had there, with gratitude, letting go of the past and paving the path for a new beginning. Make sure you take very good care of yourself throughout the entire process. You are not just moving, you are growing & changing. You should be eating well, exercising, getting enough sleep & keeping up with whatever spiritual practice is important to you. This will keep the stress levels manageable & allow you to stay focused on the wonderful new adventure you are embarking on!

As mentioned before, your home has areas that represent different aspects of life. This “bagua” is then superimposed over the floor plan of your home to determine where these areas are. You do this by aligning the three “guas” at the bottom of the map with the front Door of your home. Your front door should be in one of these areas. So that, when you stand at the front entrance, looking into your house, wealth will be in the far left corner, relationships in the far right, etc. When determining the best placement of furniture, it is important to keep a few things in mind. The three most important pieces of furniture you own are your bed, your stove, and your desk. These items need to be placed with the most advantage. The bed is where you retreat each night to rest and should be in a position where you can easily see the door to your bedroom from it. It should not be placed under a window. If you are sharing your home with a partner or would like to, there should be equal sized tables & lighting on either side of the bed. Your stove provides you with nourishment and is not to be visible from the front door. The Chinese believe it represents wealth as well, the more people you can feed, and the wealthier you are. Your desk represents where you do your work. That becomes even more important if you actually do work from home. Your desk should be placed so that you are facing the entrance to the room, you should have a chair with a nice high back with no openings. Aside from these basic guidelines, remember to keep things arranged so that the traffic flow is easy and the feeling is welcoming. These things will allow the energy to flow more freely, helping you to maintain a life that’s peaceful and prosperous. Where these areas exist in your home can be found by using the “bagua” map.

Good Luck!

A picture of tranquility and serenity- Chinese Garden

The Chinese Garden is better known to Singaporeans as the Jurong Gardens, being based in Jurong East near the MRT Station and adjacent to the Japanese Garden. The garden which is based on Chinese gardening concepts was designed by a Taiwanese architect named Professor Yuen-Chen Yu in 1975. The main characteristic of this style is the seamless melding of outstanding architectural features with natural environs, as seen in Chinese imperial gardens.

The entrance to this area is guarded by marble stone lions, the traditional Chinese animal signifying sovereignty. The White Rainbow Bridge is found almost immediately upon entrance; bridges are significant aspects of any Chinese garden and this one is built in the fashion of a miniature 17-Arch Bridge of Peking’s Summer Palace. A seven storey pagoda perched upon a small hill rises gracefully beyond the bridge. The magnificent Main Arch building which the bridge leads into, houses two courtyards: the “Early Spring Courtyard” and “Garden Courtyard” as well as a fishpond all of which make for very scenic backdrops for shutterbug tourists to pose against.

The Stone Boat, which is an architectural achievement of Chinese culture lauded by art-lovers the world over, and the Tea House are two other notable features of the garden. Both these are built along the lines of the ones at the Peking Summer Palace; it may be argued that the Stone Boat even surpasses the one in Peking.

Last but not least, we come to the main architectural highlight of the garden, which is also the signature markers of a Chinese style leisure park – the pavilion, plateau and tower. These are integral to the Feng Shui of the area; there are strict rules governing the balance of their relative heights and sizes and special care is given to the quaint footpaths, streams and plant life which lie between this constructional trifecta. The sights of the garden do not end with its architectural features, however; the main landscaping highlight is the beautiful Bonsai Garden housing over 2000 bonsais imported from China. A Bonsai Training Centre has been launched to enthuse fledgling Bonsai students and the garden is gaining a reputation as being one of the largest of its kind outside of China. The Garden of Abundance, which boasts pomegranate trees interspersed with zodiac sculptures and symbols of longevity and abundance, is one of the newer additions to the Chinese Garden, while the Live Turtle and Tortoise Museum is an unexpected glimpse into rare species of fauna sure to enhance the pleasure of an evening’s exploration of this venue. The entire ensemble of art, flora and fauna is completed with a seafood restaurant that assures the visitor that not even the best of China can make the discerning Singaporean forget about the finer things in life!

All this and more can be experienced by a visitor careful to pick the right Singapore hotel in which to base themselves. Raffles Hotel, Singapore is a five star hotel in Singapore which is also one of the city-state’s most elegant and recognized landmarks; any guest fortunate enough to find lodging there would be assured a complete experience of Singapore’s best and finest sights and attractions.

Feng Shui Colors – Bring Serenity to Your Home

Feng Shui, the ancient Chinese art of placement, has been practiced by Chinese peoples for thousands of years, and now captures the minds of people from all corners of the earth. Homes, offices and businesses often apply feng shui colors to help them with the right design to help create health, balance, love and even attract wealthiness into the space or more pleasure in the bedroom! Colors for feng shui are a great way to add a harmonious touch to any decorating project. Here are some tips to help you get going.

How Feng Shui Colors Work

The Feng Shui system arranges the house into 8 regions, and says that putting the correct color elements in the proper place enhances the positive vibes of that area and bestows prosperity, long life and luck to those who live in that home. The effects that the Feng Shui colors have on your home and overall well-being are briefly outlined below:

Blue usually represents calm, meditation and peace; utilize this color in the knowledge area of your home for the maximum effects in your life. Green is related directly with life, longevity and hope. As the trees and gardens stands for life and prosperity, this color also gives the inhabitants of the house harmony and vitality.

Further down on the spectrum is red. Amongst all the colors for feng Shui, this color is the most influential color. The Chinese view Red as a very vibrant color, and in Feng Shui it symbolizes truth. If used well, it is said that it brings luck, power, glory and happiness. This will actually enhance the fame and good reputation of your home if applied correctly.

Like red, purple is affiliated generally with power, and also with the royal lifestyle and attitude. This color has the power to generate your wealth if used correctly, according to the Feng Shui colors guide. Pink, derived from red and white, is used for enhancing relationships and romance.

For children, look at white, one of the most important Feng Shui colors, which will bring you spiritual lucidity and moral purity. Black, on the other hand, is very crucial among the Feng Shui colors while not always thought of as lucky. It is usually balanced with other colors which result in the absorption of the negative energy, or chi, in that area. Used in the correct area, each of these Feng Shui colors has the ability to bring you luck and prosperity. Books are ready to help guide you in using Feng Shui principles. Using this Chinese Feng Shui system is a great way to bring spiritual elements, abundance and balance into your home.
