IS YOUR EX BLOCKING YOU FROM FINDING NEW LOVE?
Tired of being solo when the whole world seems coupled up? Many of the people I work with want to improve their wealth area but I’d say finding a new relationship (or strengthening an existing one) is also the number one priority of most people. When I do an analysis of your home and interview you about your habits, will I find any of these feng shui blockers to a new love?
Problem: Photos of your ex. In your home, in your wallet, on your computer, in photo albums, tucked away in boxes. These reminders of your past serve as placeholders signaling the universe that you are either not over your ex or already taken. In any case, any new love interest you might meet will wonder if you truly have room in your life or your heart for a new relationship to bloom.
SOLUTION:Dump the photos. You heard me. Go cold turkey if you really want to bring a happy healthy new relationship into your life. Exception? If there are children involved you should put photos away in a storage bin so they will always have their family history and give it to some other family member to keep safe for them until they are old enough to receive the photos.
Problem: Love notes, ticket stubs from special events you went to with your ex, stuffed toys and mementos from the happy times in the relationship. One of my clients even had a framed wedding invitation hanging over the entrance to her bedroom—and she’d been the one to decide to divorce her husband two years prior because she didn’t love him. Another client used the date he asked his exwife to marry him as his computer password…4 years after their divorce his password remained unchanged and his lovelife stagnant.
SOLUTION: For the same reasons mentioned above: rid yourself of all this Ex-Love Clutter and you’ll be well on your way to attracting someone new.
Problem: Divorce papers, settlement papers, reminders of the breakup.
SOLUTION: Why are you holding on to these items? Buy yourself a shredder and move on (the universe is watching!).
Problem: You still have your engagement and wedding rings. If you’re saving them for a child, DON’T. Do you want your child to inherit divorce chi energy on their wedding day?
SOLUTION: If it’s a valuable stone, sell it and put the money in a trust fund for your child. If there are no children involved, splurge on a new wardrobe and vacation where you might meet someone interesting.
Problem: You want to maintain a friendship with your ex but one or both of you doesn’t know how to do that without overstepping boundaries. For example, when emailing each other you still use your ex’s pet name when addressing them or your own pet name when signing off. Or, when you have a “big moment” in your life, you find you must share it with your ex before anyone else (that includes a big problem where you ask for advice, good news or bad news, etc). Maybe you find out your ex is in the hospital and instead of a simple “Get Well Soon” message, you inappropriately run to their bedside and use the opportunity to work through your own intense feelings on them while they are trying to recover.
SOLUTION: Make a clean break. No need to keep the lines of communication open (unless there are children involved—in which case, you will communicate about issues concerning only your child’s welfare). You still want to be friends with your ex? Save it for a later date. Maybe one of you has moved on but the other hasn’t. Give each other the gift of time to heal old wounds. Time to clear out the Ex Love Clutter so they can make room for a new love. By not engaging when your ex has a moment of weakness and reaches out to you, you’ll be doing him or her a huge favor and you’ll be doing yourself one, too. The universe will take notice and send someone new your way.
Problem: You have a new relationship but it feels like something is keeping you from ‘going to the next level’.
SOLUTION: You may think you’ve moved on–and even moved in together–but you’re still blocking yourself from experiencing a deeper relationship with a new love. You may be afraid to get hurt again. That would be natural. You can use feng shui to help you remove that fear and all the other obstacles to love. Take inventory of your life. If you recognize any of the scenarios I’ve described, take steps toward the solutions.
It may take some time. It may bring up some emotions you thought you were done with long ago. It may be unthinkable to toss out your past as if it never existed. You may want to get some professional help. Be gentle with yourself. See what happens with your new love once you’ve cleared out the remnants of your past relationships.

Lessons Learned From Hgtvs “the Stagers”
Copyright (c) 2009 Alice Chan
I was curious, as I’m sure the rest of you were when they announced this new program airing on HGTV on July 22, if it would be a true depiction of what the Staging life is like. I would have to say that it’s probably the most realistic of the shows that are out there today, but still doesn’t tell the whole story. Regardless, here are some things that I feel you could learn from the show.
1) Have a plan for your project. I’m actually a little shocked by the lack of planning and utter chaos that is depicted. Maybe it’s just for TV drama to make it more interesting, but realistically, if that’s how you are running your business, you NEED TO TAKE CONTROL immediately.
My recommendation to you is:
a) always see the property beforehand
b) take before photos
c) map out plans for each room so that choosing inventory is more targeted and streamlined
d) create a list of staging inventory needed.
There is absolutely no reason why most projects should take more than a day. I would say 97% of the straight “staging” projects I’ve worked on was completed within one day. Anything that took more was because of the size of the project (5000+ square foot home or multiple units) OR if there were delays on other related projects.
When I first started my staging business, I was running back to the warehouse to pick up things we forgot or shopping at the last minute because we didn’t have what we needed, and I’m not saying that you won’t still have to do this occasionally, but you want to avoid these delays as much as you can and the best way to do that is to have a plan going into every single project.
2) Do be tactful with your clients. The Designers on “The Stagers” are good at keeping their opinions to a minimum in front the client. Some of the other Staging shows seem to enjoy poking fun at how awful a home looks. I’m all for being truthful and honest with your clients, but being tactful will definitely earn you more brownie points and help you maintain your professional image.
Most of the time, they already know their property is not in “top selling” condition, that’s why they called you. There’s no reason to make a mockery of the situation. Perhaps again, the criticisms voiced are for ratings, but most real life people would not be too thrilled with you if that’s how you approached them.
3) Do Keep your Inventory Organized. This is always a challenge for any Staging Company. It’s a never ending struggle with having “too much” when it all comes back and not having enough when you’re super busy.
The Dekora warehouse featured on the show is enormous compared to probably 99% of the staging firms out there. Most of us do not have the luxury of a 10,000 square foot space with seemingly unlimited inventory available. I started off with storing my inventory in our one car garage and back stairs when my husband and I lived in a townhouse. We eventually graduated to one large storage unit, then two, and finally to an 1100 square foot warehouse.
Then there was the challenge of keeping the zones organized – linens, kitchen accessories, bath accessories, floral/greenery, silk trees, lamps, chairs, art, etc. We toyed with the idea of building shelving so that we could capitalize on the vertical space in the warehouse, but then there was the safety issue with our team members going up and down.
I can’t say we ever really perfected “Staging the Warehouse”, but one thing we always tried to do was unpack after a destage and put everything back into their respective zones so that it was easy to pull inventory for the next project. The more disciplined you are in this area, the more sane you can remain. I actually designated Fridays or a day when there were no Staging Projects scheduled as Warehouse days – time to reorganize, clean and repair inventory.
4) Do Keep in Mind Who the Prospective Buyers will be and Design the Staging Accordingly. This skill will set you apart from just being a “wannabe” stager to being a true Real Estate Partner and a Professional Staging Designer.
There are many Real Estate Agents who are guilty of this as well. They don’t keep in mind who the target audience is – who would be your prospective buyer? Is it a young family? Are they empty nesters? Are they young bachelors/bachelorettes? These considerations must be top of mind when designing your Staging.
It’s not about just adding artwork and putting furniture into a room. The personality that is added with accessories should portray the type of lifestyle that one would want to live in that home. This is one thing that the Designers on the show are good at exploring and working with.
5) Build a Staging Team. This is something all of you should work towards. Just as on the show, they have the Staging Boss, Senior Stager, Home Stager, Staging Assistants, Movers, Handymen, etc., so should you.
My role was a cross between the Staging Boss and the Senior Stager as I was never completely hands-off. Building a team to work with not only makes each project more efficient, it also makes it a lot of more fun because you can bounce creative ideas off of one another.
I’ve had people on my team at all levels. Movers who just helped move inventory to and from the staging sites (mostly large pieces of furniture so we can totally relate to the sofa not fitting in the elevator or door – I dreaded getting those calls), Staging interns who actually did hands-on staging work, but can be the perfect team member to help wipe down furniture, clean mirrors and art, iron bedding, pump up airbeds, etc.
I also strongly believe there should be a Team Lead so that there is someone who is in charge on-site, otherwise it would be too chaotic.
Here are few other tips depicted on the show that I you should definitely keep in mind for your own businesses (if you’re not already doing so):
* Incorporate feng shui principles in your staging (in some parts of the country, THIS IS HUGE – like So. Cal)
* Don’t forget to address curb appeal issues
* Paint over unattractive, unmarketable wall colors
* Add dramatic art and accessories for high impact
* Bring rooms back to its originally intended purpose
* Don’t fight with what’s not working, like trying to use the homeowner’s things
* Use scale appropriate furniture

A Gift From Archangel Michael
From Debra’s very first phone call 10 years ago – even before I had met her, our friendship was punctuated by synchronicity.
In that first call she told me she had been guided to come to me for a Mayan Soul Reading. I was intrigued.
Guided?… By whom, how, why?…
I chose to suspend my curiosity till later.
Her enthusiasm and Kiwi accent made an impression. As always with new clients, I asked for her date of birth. But unusually, I was prompted from within to look up her sign while she held on, to give her a little taster of the reading to come. I told her she was 6 Mirror; That Mirror is the principle or Law of Reflection, which states that the outer universe reflects the inner; That you can change your outer world by changing your inner, your attitudes and your way of being. But equally, by changing your outer world, for example in the case of feng shui, it could dramatically impact on the inner. Her incredulousness was palpable…
I asked her just to hold on while I shared about number 6. I explained that this was about “bringing your life into a balance, an order, a rhythm and a flow”. That “when you apply the principle of organic order to shape the principle of reflection, then you stand in your power”. At this point she could contain herself no longer:
“You’ve just described exactly who I am and what I do! That’s amazing!”
“What’s that?” I said.
“I’m a feng shui consultant. I work with Archangel Michael. He speaks through my pen. Through organic, automatic writing…. He guides my feng shui advice. By creating an order that’s aligned with the greater flow in your immediate outer world, your home, then it changes your vibration and ultimately your life. Spot on, what you’ve just said. Spot on!”
Neither the notion of Feng Shui, nor of automatic writing, was new to me. Yet this phone call and the energy that came down the phone line, was compelling.
And so a dynamic, and a friendship, was set in motion that has subsequently changed both our lives.
We agreed to do an exchange: She would Feng Shui my home, and I would give her a Mayan Reading. She arrived three days later with Three type-written pages (She said that she would often retype her notes for easy reading). And it was signed off: “Archangel Michael, Angel of the South – the guide for your future path.” These pages described the house, and the lives of myself and my then wife to be, Emma in detail, as though somehow the writer had had an in-depth preview! The channelled information was accurate and poignant. We sat up and took note.
It confirmed that I was very much on track with my chosen life path, and gave very specific instructions about complete re-decoration of the house. The energy in the home shifted completely. When we put it on the market it sold to the first viewer, at the market price we wanted. 2 weeks later the new owners discovered a serious structural problem with the house that none of us had known about, and did not come up in the survey.
We had been guided and blessed.
And the energy in my relationship with Emma shifted profoundly too.
I had just about recovered from the surprise and awe surrounding that first message from Michael. Then messages about my pioneering work with Mayan cosmology started to come thick and fast through Debra. It became clear that I had an important role to play in bringing a new, refreshing interpretation of the Mayan Calendar to the world. I had already felt this, and the new confirmation was inspiring and empowering. Yet I had no idea what form this was going to take.
Very often the phone would ring and it was Debra. The call often started with the words: “And now to say…” – Michael’s trademark phrase.
I had been running a workshop called the Mayan Calendar Playshop. It was a fun day where people learned the cosmology in a creative way. Michael told me the workshop had to change. “Why?” – I asked Michael, through Debra – “People love it!”
“Because as much fun as the workshop is, it’s about giving information. People sit on information. You need to use this cosmology to run programmes that transform lives.”
I was a little bemused having just fine-tuned this fun event. Yet at the same time, I was in a place of sweet surrender, and openness to new possibilities.
Then one day, about 9 years ago, Debra arrived at my home with two and a half typed pages. I asked what this was…
“It’s for you!”
Incredulous, I asked again, “what is it Debra?”
“It’s a gift for you. From Michael… it’s a workshop!”
“A workshop?”
“Yip…” she said, “…word for word, step by step, the whole thing”.
“A workshop for me? – from Archangel Michael!!” I was honoured, humbled and awestruck. As I read it, it became clear that this was effectively an entire manual for a workshop. A programme with no theory, just 13 stages of fully committed, fun, hands-on action!
The workshop, to be known as the ‘Mayan Day of Art and Sound’, was novel and refreshing. What was particularly new to me, was Michael’s assertion that the tones and semi-tones of the musical octave – ‘C’ of one octave to ‘C’ to the next, provides 13 steps or phases that mirror the Mayan 13 steps of Creation: The creation of the planet, of life on earth, and of manifestation or goal achievement in your life.
It’s all about vibration and frequency. Sound is vibration and frequency, colour is vibration and frequency, and so is ‘Time’, which has nothing to do with the clock: The solstices and equinoxes, seasons, eclipses, gestation, moon cycles, ovulation, night and day, your pulse, and your breath it’s all in our DNA…
And it’s all periodicity, which is frequency, and in turn vibration! We are vibrational creatures. This is what the Maya understood about ‘Time’ (and Einstein called the 4th dimension) – it’s really about ‘timing’. Timing is synchronicity. Timing is vibration. When you dissolve your ego consciousness and raise your vibration, you are ‘in sync’ and ‘in the universal flow’. You then become a powerful channel and manifestor: A Co-creator with the ‘Collective Synchronicity’ and Vibration present throughout the Universe!
To effectively apply the Law of Attraction – the teaching of the movie ‘The Secret’, you need to have a strong reference point in your experience. this triggers your repeated ability to align with who you really are – with the vibrational Source of life itself.
This workshop provides you with such a reference point.
Michael has given me – and you – if you choose to participate, a true gift! An opportunity to have a magnified experience of the three level approach of Art, Sound and Time. And thus to raising your vibration and becoming a pure channel for bringing creative energy into form. If you wish to experience this profound, fun, possibly life-changing process, you don’t need prior experience in painting or Mayan cosmology. And you paint directly with your hands onto the page. So come and get your hands dirty at the next Mayan Day of Art and Sound near you!
Or take a trip out of town and have fun somewhere new!…
