Feng Shui ? Missing Sector Missing Luck

Feng Shui is associated with formulas and concepts such as Eight Mansions Method, Eight Trigrams and Nine Palaces, amongst other things. Whilst Eight Mansion Method is a formula used by Feng Shui masters to categorize people into different groups according to their Trigram or Gua, the Eight Trigrams or Ba Gua can give a lot of information about a building. According to Feng Shui, a building has Nine Palaces or Sectors which makes up the total living space of the residents. These sectors are further accorded its individual locations and directions based on the Chinese Compass. Apart from the center, the other sectors of the building are north, south, east, west, northeast, southwest, northwest and southeast.

A land where a building sits on should ideally be square in shape so that there are nine equal sectors in the interior living space of the building. The problem arises when a land is not evenly shaped such as a triangle or other odd formations. This will give rise to partial or missing sectors in the interior living space. Any partial or missing sectors are inauspicious as it negates the elemental affinity between the sectors affected and the residents concern. This is because each sector of a building has an intrinsic Gua that is associated with a resident based on his or her year of birth. The Ba Gua or Eight Trigrams are Qian, Kun, Zhen, Xun, Kan, Li, Gen and Dui. These Eight Trigrams and their corresponding sectors in a building have elemental affinity with the residents in the form of energy or Qi. In Feng Shui, the life force or vital energy that gives life to all living things on earth comes from Qi. When a sector is partially or totaling missing in a building, the Qi is considered non-existent or very weak and the resident associated with the sector based on the trigram concern is thus affected negatively. He or she will not be able to tap into the positive or revitalizing energy of the missing Qi for luck and success.

For example, the following is one of the sectors, people and animal signs associated with the Eight Trigrams:-

Sector - North
Trigram - Kan
People – Middle Daughter
Animal Sign – Rat

Each sector further governs a certain type of activity or occupation based on elemental affinity. When a sector is partially or totaling missing, the resident or the animal sign associated with it will face difficulty in his or her career pursuit related to the activity or occupation concern.

For example, the following is one of the sectors and the corresponding activity or occupation:-

Sector – North
Activity/Occupation-Logical thought, Intelligence, Research, Traveling

For example, a resident pursuing a legal career should not stay in a property with a missing east sector. A negative feature like a street lamp outside this sector can also erode the Qi therein and causes problem with expression.

In order to make sure that the sector that supports you are not missing or damaged by negative external features, you should inspect the building or property that you occupy and relate each sector to the type of work you do. This is one simple way of using Feng Shui to find out whether a building or a property is supporting or hampering your career.

Decorating Your Office According to Feng Shui

Feng Shui Meaning “wind” and “water,” is the ancient art of living in harmony with the natural world. Though the spaces that you live or work in differ the principles of Feng Shui remain the same. Feng Shui in fact is a traditional art of living with its philosophy strongly rooted in spirituality.
Feng Shui for offices
Money to you may seem like a material thing, but it has many spiritual and energetic repercussions that affect all aspects of your life. Money flows in and out of your life like the wind, touching everything as it passes by. It is important to make sure that this wind is a healing and strengthening force, not a destructive power that causes harm. It is equally important to ensure that the wind blows constantly, at least as a breeze, and that there is never stagnant, foul air (which symbolizes stagnant finances). Feng Shui for offices not only provides the guide lines for living harmoniously in your work environment it also tells you to how you can manage office spaces to yield prosperity.

There are some time tested office Feng Shui practices which can be used for enhancing your workplace. Practicing the following Feng Shui Tips can make office Feng Shui work for you and you would start noticing the changes.

Feng Shui tips for offices
Remove clutter

Your office must be organized and arranged efficiently. Clutter according to Feng Shui stimulates negative Chi (energy) and should be kept to a minimum. Remove whatever extraneous materials are lying in your office. By clearing away the physical clutter that you have been confronting on a daily basis, you free up your mental, emotional burden and feel light, cheerful and optimistic in your reinvigorated working space.

Position of the desk

Keep your desk in the commanding position. The commanding position means a position of power, where you have a direct view of the door, a pleasant view out the window and a wall behind you for stability. This position of the desk according to the Feng Shui office offers you the maximum control.

Shape of your desk

Shape of your desk can affect your mood and level of productivity in the workplace. Rounded curves are flowing, encouraging the flow of creativity. A kidney-shaped desk follows the natural curves of the human body and is said to give you a subconscious feeling of inner alignment.

Placing the plants

Place plants in your work and help you stay connected to the natural world. Since the green color spurs creativity and new ideas it helps you to have creative element in the office. In Feng Shui practice keeping plants helps to have positive Chi flow in corners which other wise are neglected spaces devoid of any energy. Green plants also act as a filtering system, reducing toxins and circulating stagnant air.

Choosing the correct light

The best light is natural daylight, so move your desk close to a window but never have your desk directly in front of window or fluorescent lights which cast a glare, causing eyestrain and exhaustion. You may improve your mood and energy dramatically by replacing fluorescent lights with warm lights that don’t cast a glare.

Use of Feng Shui colors

Making use of Feng Shui Colors can help you achieve balance in your office. Different colors have different properties some colors can help people feel grounded and secure. Blues, purples or reds are supposed to enhance the wealth and prosperity area of your office.
Office Feng Shui and bagua

A Bagua map can help you to make your office a “Feng Shui-friendly” environment. Bagua can help you in placing objects or placement of furniture in your office in areas which in Feng Shui are said to stimulate your discipline, prosperity and creativity. Once you determine the connections between various spaces in your office and 8 different guas of the bagua map, you start to develop a much stronger sense of purpose and focus about the changes you would like to implement in your life. You can make use of Feng Shui Elements for creating a balance between yin and yang energies.

According to Feng Shui for offices you can have:
•    Your desk and computer in the “career” area
•    Reference books in the “knowledge” and “self-cultivation” areas
•    A crystal bowl in “wealth and prosperity”
•    You can have reception, phone systems/communication system in area marked for helpful people.
•    You can have a picture of your father or other relatives in the family area if you have an inherited business.
Feng Shui and home office
The tips mentioned above can also be applied to your home office. But if not possible you can at least take care to change your home office to a Feng Shui office.

For example if your home office is full of creative and dream-inducing objects, get rid of some of them and introduce more logical, work-oriented elements that will help you get right down to business.

Or if your home office is like the other rooms of your office it is having beige or white curtains can be dramatically improved-and the energy invigorated-by using the guide lines of Feng Shui for offices. Something as simple as adding a tall red vase on the floor or atop a table or windowsill can help you have more yin energy. An impersonal office space can become suddenly personalized and imbued with character when you hang a print of your favorite painting on the wall. A stale room will be immediately freshened when you light a scented candle in an aroma you find particularly pleasing.

Adding a sturdy brown desk to the home office where bills are paid promotes practicality in a person who used to be a spendthrift. These are just an introduction to some of the Feng Shui practices. You can have a number of feng shui design ideas for your office or home office to increase the balance and harmony.

Attract wealth with Feng Shui

A recent news article featured a man who had won over £175,000 on a William Hill jackpot game.  Just ten months before he had won £95,000 on the same jackpot game.  ‘Lucky guy’ you might say but he put it down to implementing changes to his home after a Feng Shui consultation.

The purpose of this article is not to advocate gambling you understand.  The purpose of this article is to consider how Feng Shui might improve your wealth and to offer some tips to get you started.

You’ve probably seen lots of things advertised that guarantee abundance: money trees, three legged toads and pyramids are just a few.  But there’s a huge difference between hanging up a charm hoping Lady Luck will notice you as she passes by and using Feng Shui intelligently to improve your life and let abundance in.

Feng Shui works by considering the energies of your home or workplace and how they interact with you as an individual.  But it’s not just about space.  Timing is also important.  Each one of us is living our own unique cycle.  So, where you are in your life will have an effect on your interaction with your environment.

Confused?  No need to be.  Feng Shui is not complicated, just multi-faceted.  Once you know the nature of the energies around and within you, the key is to live with those energies – enhancing the good ones and minimising the not so good ones.  And a good feng shui consultant will be able to advise you on how to do this.

However, there are some general things that you can do to attract the good stuff:

There are two wealth areas in your home or workplace that you need to be aware of.  The first is the south east sector and the second is the top left area as viewed on a floor plan of your space with the main door at the bottom.
Clear clutter from these areas.  Clutter causes energy to stagnate which makes it thick, heavy and depressing.  What self respecting wealth would want to turn up in such a place?  Tidy things up and you make space for new energy and new opportunities.
Keep the areas light.  There are a number of ways you can do this: remove anything outside the window that is stopping the light coming in (such as overgrown trees or shrubs); clean the windows; change the curtains if necessary; if natural daylight is limited consider a permanent source of artificial light; use a light, bright colour scheme and furnishings.
To stimulate the energy in this area use a wind chime, aquarium or plants.
If using plants choose the traditional money tree/jade plant (crassula argentea) and keep it healthy.
If using an aquarium keep goldfish.  Their bright colours attract abundant energy.  Have at least three fish and, if more, keep them in multiples of three.  Keep the aquarium clean and the fish healthy.

Finally, you may be wondering what changes the guy who won the jackpots made which brings me to my final tip:

Keep the toilet seat down and the bathroom door closed.  This rule applies to bathrooms anywhere in the building but is especially important if the rooms are in the areas mentioned above.  Energy is drained very quickly in the bathroom as water is flushed or washed away and you don’t want to get rid of it before the magic has happened.

Clean House, Clean Head

When you walk in the front door of your home after a long, hard day, do you feel soothed, comfortable, and truly at home?  Or does it look like a scene from the film Animal House?

Imagine looking around you and only seeing, feeling, hearing, smelling appealing things.   Imagine coming home from work to a home where you love every single thing you see.  Where every single thing has a purpose and a space, and you know exactly where everything is, and it all functions beautifully.

You CAN live this way!

Do you have clutter in your home or office?  Are you behind on bills? Are there stacks of papers or other items that have been there since the 80’s, and you are waiting to get “a round tuit?”  Are you simply a busy person, or are you a packrat or a hoarder? If you are a chronic packrat or hoarder, you may consider seeking professional help and/or medication to feel safe without the “protection” that all your “stuff” provides.

Well, there is a direct psychological parallel to “stuff” out there; whatever is going on in your head is generally reflected in your house.  Certainly some of us are more affected by our environments than others….some of us are more sensitive than others…some seem to frankly be completely oblivious to mess. Some actually swear that they do better with a mess, but it is generally an organized mess, yet they’d be even more functional if their environment were more efficient.

Yet underneath it all, they are simply comfortable with the familiar.

Many people would love to have an organized environment, but keep procrastinating while their piles of stuff and their guilt/fear/anxiety increase!  Here are Ten Tips – - some really simple steps to help you get started on a cleaner house, head, and life:

1. Make a list of every closet, drawer, etc. that needs to be cleared.  For example, master bathroom: 8 drawers, one linen closet.   Home office: 6 desk drawers, 5 filing cabinets drawers, sofa stacked with papers.   This crucial first step is not to overwhelm you; quite the contrary, it’s to give you the big picture so you can break it down into easily manageable baby steps.    Allow yourself all the time you need…..one or two hours a day or a week.  This entire project may take you weeks or even months to complete.   But you will feel better every single step of the way…..just imagine the burden being lifted by simply starting!   Some couples and families find creative ways to do this together.

2. Next, prioritize which area needs to be tackled first.  If you are close to bankruptcy, you might want to handle your office first.  If your spouse is researching divorce attorneys because of the bedroom clutter, you might want to start there.   Get your list in order, and choose one room, one area to make your debut.  Pick your favorite time of day and day of the week to work on this project.   Write it in your calendar/datebook/Blackberry and honor this date with yourself as if it were as important as a DDS or MD appointment so you are psychologically geared up for it. If letting go is already difficult, why not set yourself up for success by making it easier in every way possible?  Enroll a friend of family member to help you, but only if he/she can be lovingly decisive. If you have children, allow them to help you. Know that you are modeling excellent behaviors for them to take on and pass on to their children.  You are training them to be more decisive, organized, and let the small stuff go.  Wear comfy clothes, put on your favorite upbeat music, and have your favorite meal and beverage (or fresh flowers, etc.) ready for you as a reward when you complete this.

3. On D-Day (De-clutter Day): Take every single thing out of the closet or drawer. Vacuum and/or clean out all dust and dirt. Thoroughly.  Have rags and antibacterial cleansers handy and perhaps an air freshener. Polish the furniture.  You may wish to line drawers with paper, and/or add organizational dividers.

4.         Next, sort items into piles of (A) must keep because I use it frequently, (B) not sure, haven’t used in a while, and (C) haven’t used in years and frankly forgot I had it.  Remember, nothing is gone forever.  If you find later that you discarded something you still need, you can get another….perhaps an updated, better one.  When we hold onto the past, we deny the future possibilities of improvement.

5.    Put all of C items in a garbage bag and label for your favorite church, charity, homeless people, shelter, mission, or Salvation Army. OR, label for the garage sale you will plan when complete with the clearing phase.

6.   Sort A items in an organized fashion: color code, size, etc.  You can get very inexpensive racks and containers for drawers and closets that will keep all your items neat and orderly. Call me anal, but my closet is arranged (and labeled) DRESSES, SUITS, BLOUSES, PANTS, SWEATERS, and all color coded within the category.  A REAL time saver when I want to mix and match.

7. Revisit B items and rate each on a scale of 1-10 in attachment, 10 being you really feel attached/scared to let it go.   Anything scoring 5 or lower goes you know where…….in with the C items for recycling or garage sale.  Another way to deal with the Bs is by asking yourself:  Is this item a reminder of my past, or in line with my future?

8. Repeat this cycle in every area of your home or office.  You will probably feel like your home has “lost weight,” as indeed it has.  Enjoy the feeling!  Celebrate with that favorite meal, beverage, flowers, etc.  You’ve earned a treat.

9. With all the items you are letting go, have a garage sale and make a few extra bucks.  Or take to a local eBay seller and have them do it for you.  Or give away the items to a friend, a college student, to a shelter or Salvation Army or a church.  Remember, you are not losing these things…..you are recycling, sharing with others who can really use them.   You’ve outgrown them.  Others need them more than you do.

10. If even the thought of this is overwhelming, you might consider hiring a master of Feng Shui, a personal organizer, or a clutter buster, to come in and work with you patiently through every step of the process.  Be prepared for emotions to come up.  A good Feng Shui master or organizer will know how to walk you through this crucial phase.  Keep a journal close by if you are working this alone, and write out your feelings. Bottling them inside you is exactly what is bottlenecking your home’s energy.

After you’re done, you want to put a maintenance plan in effect to insure continual comfort and psychological health.  Once a week, more or less, check in and survey your home or office.  Throw away or file away everything you can.   Organize bills in a chronological fashion and keep in some sort of TO BE PAID stack.  Look at it every week and see what needs to be paid.  Debts (like excess pounds!) are definitely a form of clutter.   Check out your closets and clothes drawers with every season’s change, or just at the New Year, to clear out the C items, and survey the B items.

A healthy psyche can flow as easily as a ship on an open sea.  Imagine how difficult it would be for a ship to sail through cluttered waters.  It would take enormous energy and time to maneuver around obstacle after obstacle.

Here’s to smooth sailing on the sea of life!
