Feng Shui: Energizing The Home

One often overlooked aspect of Feng Shui is how intangible, invisible, energy can effect a home’s environment and the occupant’s emotional state and health.

While the whole concept of this may appear to be ‘hog wash’ or ’superstitious mumbo-jumbo’, then you need to read this article and learn how to use an ancient art to improve the look and feel of your home, without breaking your budget.

Energy can take invisible forms. It works with the invisible energy in a home and can vary depending on the season. In the outdoors, energy flows freely, taking the road of least resistance. A building captures energy and traps it.

This energy resides in different parts of the home, effecting the feel and mood of the rooms. The principles of the spatial and temporal dimensions of a building have created a method called the Flying Stars System. This lets Feng Shui masters identify and evaluate the invisible energy in the home.

The flying star system breaks a home into a tic tac toe grid. This grid determines the rooms that have the strongest positive energy and those that have the negative energy.

Home decorators who take time to learn this type of decorating will find some startling facts. Despite the fact that the system uses ancient techniques, many of today’s homes are built on a similar scale.

Most new homes have the master bedroom at the front corner of the home – as apposed to a room in the middle of the home, where negative energy is strongest. The center square is the living room. In many of today’s home designs, the house is built around a center entrance way that leads into a living room.

Our kitchens are also placed in a back corner of the home. This may imply that while Americans are unconscious of the fact, they are instinctively following the energy patterns of their home.

How can this benefit the average person? Many people are suffering from diseases that have no origin. Even if moving from one bedroom to another will not heal a person, it may reduce stress and a negative impact.

Whether the flying star system tracks loose ions in the home, or energy that escapes from our many electrical appliances, is not understood. What is understood is that many people are finding relief from stress and pain by moving from one room to another in the home.

If a homeowner can get over the ancient Chinese classifications like ‘flow of prosperity’, ‘promoting wealth’, and references to the year that a building was constructed, it is possible to glean some practical benefits from the study of the flow of energy in a home.

In many cases, feng shui will help home owners create a home that balances with the surrounding landscape.

One thing we do understand, art has a dramatic impact on people’s emotions and well-being. To view feng-shui as the science of turning a home and the surrounding environment into a ‘work of art’ than you’ll be able to reap the full benefits of managing the home’s energy and its affect on the homes occupants.

Your Bed May Be The Culprit For What Ails You

Feng Shui can be used in any part of your home or working space, but focusing on rooms that you frequent is a good place to begin. As you will spend much of your life in your bedroom, this is where many people feel comfortable making changes first. The bedroom is not only the location in which we relax and rest, but it is also the focus of relationships and love. Without these things in balance, the rest of your life can become problematic. To begin this bedroom transformation (as well as life change), you will want to consider the Feng Shui bed options that you have and what they mean for your energy flow.

To start off any Feng Shui bed, you will want to look at the headboard structure. The material should be related to one of the five elements – fire, wood, earth, metal, or water. Next, you will want to look at the headboard’s shape to see if it is appropriate for you. Those that deal with a lot of office stress will find that a metallic headboard with a rounded shape is effective for their overall relaxation. Rectangle and square headboards are typical of those that have earth or wood element energy. The strong design of these sharp corners invokes a sense of structure and stability. The oval or the wave shaped headboard works well with the water element. Those that are creative or who are artists or musicians will find this smoothed shape soothing and helpful in promoting new ideas. However, those that are related to the fire element will find that the angular shape this element invokes is not conducive to rest, so it should be avoided.

In most cases, headboards are found in either metal or wood constructions. When looking for a Feng Shui bed design that promotes peace for you, the metal frame is best for those who work in an office setting, while those who favor stability will want to opt for the wood. The wood is grounding and can help with anxiety or pressure in the person’s outside life. But in general, it’s the shape of the headboard that is more important than the material, though if you have a choice, it’s best to find your elemental match.

Other things to keep in mind when choosing a Feng Shui bed headboard include avoiding the use of open headboards as they are not supportive to the sleeping cycle or energy balancing. Mirrors on headboards can also be problematic as they reflect energy away from those sleeping or directly onto those sleeping, disrupting their energy. Designs that include ‘poisoned arrows’ or sharp points that face those sleeping should also be avoided. Headboards that resemble tombstones or denote any sort of violence are associated with death and are not recommended as well nor are headboards with crosses. However, headboards with x’s are fine and suitable.

Moving to the opposite end of the Feng Shui bed, the footboard is something that has stricter rules. It can not be any higher in height than the mattress of the bed as this will block the flow of energy into the bed, creating disruptions for those sleeping there. But lower styled footboards are fine, and will allow for a nice design as well as even flow of energy.

Where you put your Feng Shui bed is nearly as important as which kind of bed you choose. Placing a bed by the window is not a good Feng Shui practice as it allows energy to flow out of it, hurting the energy flow for those sleeping. The bed should be placed alongside a solid wall that prevents this from happening. But that wall should not be one that is shared by the bathroom, as the water energy is draining. Other tips include:

• Do not place the bed underneath a ceiling fan
• Do not have the bed facing the doorway
• Do place a bedroom light to the side of the bed, rather than over the bed
• Do place clocks to the side of the bed

Clutter is another factor that can influence your Feng Shui bed. By having too many things surrounding your bed, you can create problems with energy flow. A dresser at the foot of your bed is a good example of this.

In terms of a Feng Shui bed for your children, a bunk bed is not the best way to go. While it might seem more convenient, it actually causes disruptions of energy with the support bars as well as limits energy of the one sleeping on the top bunk.

Where you sleep is crucial to how you face the world each day. By taking the time to find a Feng Shui bed that matches your personal element as well as increases energy flow, you will wake up refreshed each morning and ready for whatever comes your way.

This is a question regarding "feng shui".?

I have made a wishing well out of a medium fish style bowl filled it with rocks and added dimes, nickles and pennies into it. It sits in my wealth (prosperity) corner of my apartment on a small metal plant stand which I covered with a 1" thick wood plate (the bowl sits on top of the plate). It is surrounded by 2 lucky bamboo plants next to the window. My concern is the metal plant stand. Could this create a problem?

it depends where the well is located, in relation to the door facing (specific degree to which the main house door face) of the house. and at which specific degree does the water flow.

in fengshui, water can be still or moving. moving water are usually placed on locations you like to activate or stimulate, especially on location where there is good chi. but moving water can also stimulate/ activate locations with bad chi. chi is usually calculated usng flying star theory. so, if you are not sure, better not to put the water feature. on the other hand, still water are used to activate water star of a particular area that has a bad chi combination (also with flying star), but this is only done when you are sure about the situation.

with regards to the plant and the metal stand, it does not make any difference. because the most important thing is water placement. if your water placement is correct according to fengshui theories, then you have a good fengshui with or without the bamboo and metal stand.

Anyone know much about Feng Shui?

I have been reading a lot on it for about 3 weeks but some books say different things for example the Mother-in-law tongue plant is negative energy… Im interested about the Bangua map or the use of the compass whats the difference? Any information you have is a help, I am trying to decorate my room to bring wealth and Love etc.

If you want to apply Feng Shui accurately to your home, you should use the 8 Mansions and the Flying Stars systems of Feng Shui. Also, be sure to sleep in one of your favorable directions.

Besides, to apply Feng Shui you always need to use a compass. You’ll find all information about it here (theory, glossary, calculators, courses):

What would be the best wording for this (repost)?

I want the beginning of the speech’s introduction to be something about how un-feng shui the classroom is… and how everyone in the room is getting "stabbed" by poison arrows because the room has so many pointy things like corners. The intro has to be attention getting… does that mean I need to shout?

Or maybe I can use a rhetorical question "How compatible are you with your house?" or maybe play "having relationship, school, etc. problems?" Since feng shui cures this apparently…

I’m doing an informative speech The Fundamentals of Feng Shui for my worst class ENGLISH with the devil… >_<

I honestly don’t know what you could write about..?

But, don’t scream.

Teachers get mad when you scream.

Improving your Relationship Luck With Feng Shui

There are specific Feng Shui techniques that you can use to improve your relationship with others (romance included).

But what is Feng Shui? It is an ancient Chinese metaphysical discipline that studies how the environment affects a person’s luck in life particularly in the areas of wealth, health and relationship.

There are many schools of Feng Shui and they each have their special techniques to improve relationship luck. I will share with you a very simple but potent formula that can help you to improve the quality of your relationships with others.

This formula is taken from a system known as the Eight Mansions or Eight House which is more than 1200 years old. This system works on the belief that all of us have favorable and unfavorable directions that are influence by the prevailing directional energies that were present when we were born. These favorable and unfavorable directions affect us throughout our life and our fate can be improved if we sit or sleep in harmony with these directions.

Are you ready to take the plunge? The first thing that you need to do is to determine your ‘Kua’ or ‘Gua’ number. This number can be computed using your date of birth and sex. To make the process of determining your ‘Kua’ number easier, you can simply refer to a ‘Kua Chart’ that you can find easily on the net. Read your ‘Kua’ number off the chart. Take note that it depends on your sex.

There are altogether 8 numbers that range from 1 to 4 and 6 to 9. Find out of ‘relationship’ direction by referring to the list below.

If your Kua is 1, your ‘relationship’ direction is south.

If your Kua is 2, your ‘relationship’ direction is north-west.

If your Kua is 3, your ‘relationship’ direction is south-east.

If your Kua is 4, your ‘relationship’ direction is east.

If your Kua is 6, your ‘relationship’ direction is south-west.

If your Kua is 7, your ‘relationship’ direction is north-east.

If your Kua is 8, your ‘relationship’ direction is west.

If your Kua is 9, your ‘relationship’ direction is north.

Let me illustrate with a couple of examples. If you are a male born on 1st July 1957, your ‘Kua’ number is 7 and your ‘relationship’ direction is north east. If you are a female born on the 15th March 1977, your ‘Kua Number’ is 1 and your ‘relationship’ direction is south.

How to apply the formula? To improve your relationship luck, you should re-arrange your table, chair and bed to face your ‘relationship’ direction.

Let’s say that your ‘relationship’ direction is north. Re-arrange your table and chair, if necessary, so that you are facing north when seated. Your back would then face south. This is quite straight forward.

The sleeping direction is a bit different. It is not the direction that you face while lying in bed. Instead the direction is taken from the crown of your head. If your ‘relationship’ direction is north, then you should sleep in a north-south axis with the crown of your head pointed at north and the base of your feet pointed south.

Did I tell you it is simple? If you have tried everything and are not getting the desired results, why not give it a try? Then wait a few months and see if it works for you!

Bathroom Decorating

For some people their bathroom is just the room where they get ready for the day, eliminate waste, and store their hygiene products. Still others like to transform their bathroom into a personal spa. While no one likes to talk about it, the bathroom is a vital, necessary part of all homes. For those who practice, or want to practice, Feng Shui in their homes, this room absolutely can’t be ignored. Certain decorating strategies are necessary to ensure that this room is in accord with the ancient Chinese philosophy. While bathrooms weren’t part of the original Feng Shui tradition, since it was created before indoor plumbing, you can still arrange your bathroom to complete the benefits involved in Feng Shui. Feng Shui and bathroom design will further provide a calm, soothing home for all of the occupants.

The good news is that in Feng Shui and bathroom usage, the bathroom is closely related to the element of water. Let’s face it; the majority of purposes in the bath are connected to water in one way or another. Water represents cash flow and prosperity in addition to the career aspect of life and prosperity. Ensuring that this room is designed in the Feng Shui tradition can help improve those areas of your life tremendously.

On the other hand, it can’t be ignored that the bathroom is also used for elimination. Whether it is through the toilet or down the shower drain, this room is used for getting rid of toxins. Luckily when the proper Feng Shui and bathroom practices are followed, you can reduce the effects of negative chi, while increasing the helpful water element.

The first thing that needs to be done to Feng Shui friendly your bathroom is to give the room a thorough cleaning. Products sitting on the sink or the back of the toilet need to find a proper home if they are essential to your hygiene. If not, it’s time to get rid of the unnecessary items. Clutter is counterproductive to a good chi flow, and especially in the bathroom it is vital to keep this space debris free. Don’t forget to include under the sink and any linen closets in this process. They count too, and leaving them unorganized is not going to help you in combining good Feng Shui and bathroom décor.

Now that you have the bathroom clean and ready for its Feng Shui makeover, let’s talk colors. There is no need to go overboard on elaborate color schemes. Bright colors are distracting and not beneficial to the Feng Shui and bathroom design. Your best bets are neutral colors like cream and light blue. If that isn’t going to work for you, at least use a color that is relaxing and muted.

As far as the fixtures in the bathroom go, it is very important that they are all in excellent working order. Leaking facets represent your money and prosperity flowing down the drain. Be sure the sink and bath tub facets shut off effectively. Noisy drains are an issue as well. If you have a problem with any of these plumbing issues, and can’t fix them yourself, don’t hesitate to call in a professional to get you started on your way. Feng Shui and bathroom maintenance work best when all of the fixtures are working properly.

The non water element fixtures serve a purpose as well. For example the mirror should be as large as the space above the sink allows. Since you prepare for your day in the bathroom, it is important for you to have a clear, bright vision of yourself every day. The recent trend of placing a mirror split in two in the bathroom isn’t in touch with good Feng Shui and bathroom design.

It is essential to make sure your bathroom is as pleasant as possible. This is one of the most effective ways to ensure that the negative aspects of the bathroom are controlled and don’t cause any problems with the flow of positive chi. The use of crystals is helpful in creating and activating good energy.

Another thing to watch out for is if your bathroom is opposite your kitchen. It doesn’t take a genius to determine why this is not good for the flow of chi. If you do find yourself in this type of situation, the easiest solution is to always keep the bathroom door closed. It is also beneficial to leave the toilet lid down when not in use. Anything you can do to keep the negative chi from escaping into the kitchen and the rest of the house is a step in the right direction.

Feng Shui and bathroom design and placement are an important part of providing your family with a harmonious environment. Color choices and fixture maintenance are essential in allowing a positive energy flow.

Life is not a bed of roses and the same can be said about relationships. However, peonies can cause infidelity in the case of married couple, so it is best avoided in that case. Hanging clear crystals in the south corner of the living room can also bring about harmony among the various members of the family. Certain precious and semi precious stones like pink quartz also have relationship enhancing qualities and they also look appealing when worn on the wrist as a charm.
